Awantipora, Nov 24: Department of Islamic Studies, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Wednesday organized s special lecture on the topic “Does Islam condemn misogyny, oppression, and violence against women?”.
The Special lecture was delivered by Professor Idrisa Pandit, Associate Faculty at Luther University College, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada.
Prof. Idrisa in her thought-provoking lecture emphasized the importance of revisiting Islam in light of the gender issue.
She stated that Islam had neither patriarchy nor matriarchy and both genders have roles to play in the day-to-day activities of life, and they are unique yet intertwined personalities.
The lecture was attended by prominent academicians, faculty members and scholars of the University.
Professor Abdul Rashid Bhat of IUST’s Islamic Studies Department IUST also shared his thoughts on the topic.
Meanwhile, HOD Islamic Studies IUST Dr. Afroz Bisati in his talk emphasized the importance of studying Islam without a preconceived notion. He also presented the vote of Thanks.
On the occasion, Dr. Showkat Hussain of Islamic studies Department IUST oversaw the proceedings.
