Srinagar, Nov 1 (UNI): Security forces arrested four militant associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its shadow group “The Resistance Front” in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said on Wednesday.
Arms and ammunition and other incriminating materials were also recovered from their possession.
Police said on October 30, a joint team of Baramulla Police along with Army’s 52RR and CRPF’s 53 Bn at a checkpoint established at Naradhiri Dangerpora junction intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehended.
They were identified as Ghulam Hassan Mir of Muran Tangwari Chandoosa and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan of Pinjwara Laridora Chandoosa.
“During search, 1 Chinese Pistol, 1 Pistol magazine, 12 live rounds, 2 hand grenades & other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession,” a police spokesman said.
Accordingly, a case was registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation and upon their disclosure, two more persons Altaf Ahmad Rather of Kawhar and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb of Kunzar were called for questioning.
“During questioning, both the accused persons confessed about possession of hand grenades. Upon their disclosure, 2 hand grenades were recovered from the duo accused persons and subsequently were arrested in the instant case,” the spokesman said.
During further investigation, it came to surface that all the four accused persons were working for terrorist associate Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh of Kunzer in the past, who is presently lodged under Pubic Safety Act.
“Further investigation is going on,” police said.
