Srinagar, April 1st: Four plays were staged on the sixth day of ‘Spring Theatre Festival’ (Edition-2) at Tagore Hall here.
The plays included ‘Earthly Therapy’ in Kashmiri and English by S P College (Writer & Director – Seeman Fatima & Sheeza Shah) ‘Local Taxes Extra’ in Kashmiri by Mehak Dramatic Club (Writer– Dr Sohan Koul & Director – Farhat Sidiq), ‘Ba Chhus Fankaar’ in Kashmiri by Young Dramatists Society (Writer – Hassan Javaid, Director – Altaf Hussain) and ‘Dak Ghar’ in Dogri by Samooh Theatre Group (Writer – Rabindra Nath Tagore, Translation – Sudheer Mahajan, Director – Ravinder Sharma).
The second edition of the festival will conclude on 2nd April and is being organised by Actors’ Creative Theatre (ACT) in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL). The festival is supported by J&K Tourism Development Corporation.
The plays that will be staged on Saturday (2nd April) include ‘Ghalib at Quarantine’ in Urdu, by Natraj Natya Kunj Cultural Society (Writer – Roheet Verma & Director – Abhishek Bharti), ‘Yi Intezaar Kar Gatchhi Khatam’ in Kashmiri by Kalidas Theatres (Concept – Ashraf Nagoo, Writer & Director – Javaid Ahmad Khan), ‘Lal Ded’ in Kashmiri by J&K Bhoomi Human Welfare Society- Concept – Prof. Amar Malmohi, Writer – Director – JK Koul (Bezaan) and ‘Posh Colony’ in Kashmiri by Kashmir Kala Manch (Writer – Jahangeer Farash & Director – Majeed Wani).
Festival director Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan said that enthralling performances of the young artists are pulling him to do more such theatre festivals in the future. “I assure that more such festivals will be done and I want to keep the spirit of theatre alive in them,” he said.
“I am thankful to the Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages Mr. Rahul Pandey (IAS) for accepting our proposal of collaboration and also to Managing Director JKTDC Mr. Syed F Hamid, (IAS) for extending support to our festival,” he said.
