Hyderabad, Nov 16: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized 1.8 kg of smuggled gold valued at Rs 1.11 crore at Hyderabad airport., a release said here on Thursday.
Based on an intelligence report regarding the concealment of smuggled gold inside an aircraft, one passenger arriving from Tiruchirappalli to Hyderabad on Wednesday was identified and intercepted.
Smuggled gold weighing 1.8 kg in bar form was found concealed by the passenger.
The domestic passenger admitted that the gold was smuggled and concealed by a gang member during the international run of the aircraft and that he was asked to retrieve the gold during the domestic journey of the aircraft.
The smuggled gold has been seized and the passenger has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Further investigations are underway, the release added. (UNI)
