It may be noted that Mishra was held guilty by the court on Friday and the quantum of punishment was announced today.

Mishra’s son Vishnu Mishra and grandson Vikas Mishra alias Jyoti were also accused in the case, but they were acquitted for lack of evidence.

In 2020, a singer from Varanasi had lodged a case at Gopiganj police station accusing Vijay Mishra, his son Vishnu Mishra and grandson Vikas accusing them of rape.

It was alleged that during the 2014 Lok Sabha election Vijay Mishra called the singer from Varanasi for the election campaign of his daughter Seema Mishra. The singer alleged that later Vijay Mishra called her at his residence and raped her.

The ADGC said that pronouncing the judgement the MP-MLA court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Subodh Singh sentenced Vijay Mishra to 15 years of imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 1.10 lakh for rape. A total of 83 cases was pending against Vijay Mishra. (UNI)
