Anantnag July 13: Residents of Badroo pahalgam villagers of Anantnag district Tuesday staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for supplying filthy water to their area for the past several years.
The residents of sheikh Mohalla of Badroo Pahalgam area assembled in village and held protest against the Jal Shakti department for not providing them safe drinking water.
The residents raised slogans against the department and demands filtered water supply.
The protesters while talking to Daily Uqab said that they were getting contaminated water supply from the water scheme and the department had failed to find out a solution, due to which they live under threat of epidemic.
The residents alleged that there were high chances of an outbreak of water-borne diseases in the area.
They said that they had taken the matter to the department many times but to no avail.
Residents said that few years back the department had laid the pipes through nearby canals and streams and the water comes from the canals and streams through pipes is full of “filthy” causing inconvenience to inhabitants. Residents said.
According to residents, the department has made a filtration plant 12 year ago in village but the said filtration plant is not working forcing residents to drinking contaminated water. Residents said.
GH Nabi Bala a local resident while talking to the Daily Uqab said that “The drinking water supplied through pipeline from nearby stream Is full of filthy. Though we have informed the PHE officials several times but unfortunately no step has been initiated by the department to address the problem till yet. Nabi said.
Added that the PHE department has spent crores of rupees on filtration plant in village but all goes in vain.
Another resident Gh Mohd Mochi, said that the people of the area are suffering immense hardships due to non-availability of pure drinking water supply. He said that the area is getting contaminated water supply daily from PHE Division which is a big unfortunate.
Bala added that many times the locals took up the matter with concerned officials but nothing was done so far.
Residents are requesting governor administration to intervene the matter so that their grievance will be addressed at the earliest.
