Kolkata, Nov 4: West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tried hard to peddle a fake story regarding digitisation and deactivation of ration cards in the state.
Taking to X, Adhikari said, “Mamata Banerjee tried hard to peddle a fake story that it was due to former minister-in-charge of Food and Supplies Department; Jyoti Priya Mallick’s efforts (arrested in connection with the Ration Scam), Ration Cards were digitized & more than 1 crore Ration Cards were deactivated.”
“The fact is that due to the Central Govt’s insistence on Aadhar and biometric authentication, it led to the cancellation of more than one crore Ration Cards in WB, as these cancelled cards were bogus, ” he stated.
“The largescale cancellation/deactivation of more than 1 crore Ration Cards in West Bengal happened only after mandatory linkage of the Aadhaar Cards of the beneficiaries with their Ration Cards and thus it became impossible to have multiple Ration Cards under one name or completely fake Ration Cards altogether, ” Suvendu asserted.
“WB Govt had always been averse to digitisation of Ration Cards, which became mandatory after the passage of the National Food Security Act, ‘ he added.
“Even the State Govt was opposed to the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme and was forced to implement the flagship Central Govt initiative only after they were rapped by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, ” the BJP MP from Nandigram maintained.
“So, Madam CM, you can’t fool the people all the time. This is the true story of your Minister’s ‘Green Revolution’, ” he commented. (UNI)
